Electric vehicle sales went from a fraction of all car sales 10 years ago to more than 10 million cars world-wide in 2022. Given that cars and trucks contribute about 20% of the world’s total greenhouse gas emissions, going electric will make a big dent.
EVs will continue to make up more and more of total car sales due to the fact that many countries have passed laws banning new sales after 2035 and most every major auto manufacturer has decided to stop producing them before 2035 or sooner.
New solid-state battery electric vehicle (EV) cars will have range of 600 to 700 miles (1,000 km), charge in 10 to 15 minutes, and all but eliminate risk of catching on fire as some traditional lithium batteries have done.
Compared to gas cars, EVs are cheaper to own (electricity is cheaper than gas and there fewer parts and less maintenance), and with falling battery prices EVs will on average cost the same as gas-powered cars by 2024 in Europe, 2025 in China and 2026 in the U.S.
EVs are the future of automobiles.
