Become a MentorAs student teams lean on AI tools to research, prototype, and communicate their climate solutions, they need guidance from people who understand both the technology and its limits.
The AI Companion Project connects each Challenge team with a volunteer mentor for the duration of the competition. Mentors meet with their team periodically to talk through how AI fits into their project, where it helps, and where human judgment still has to lead. The goal isn't to hand students answers — it's to help them build the habits of thoughtful, responsible AI use they'll carry into their careers.

We pair you with a student team based on their project focus and your interests, then make the introduction.
Check in with your team a few times over the Challenge season — in person, by video, or over email, whatever fits both schedules.
Mentors are volunteers from industry, academia, and the broader CIC community — engineers, designers, researchers, and professionals who use AI tools in their own work and want to help students use them well. You don't need to be an AI specialist, just curious, patient, and willing to make time for a student team a few times over the season.
